Arise.
I walked today.
I got up, and put on my new foot (the test version of it, anyway) and I walked.
Don’t believe me? Check out this video.
It was capital ‘W’ weird, to say the least. Standing felt like a revelation. Walking was even more so.
It was bizarre to be back on my feet again. One of the first things I noticed was how tall I felt. The second was how small I felt.
I thought it was going to take me weeks to do the thing I did today, and it didn’t. It was super cool, and I can’t wait to do it again.
FAQ’s
It’s not nearly as heavy as it looks. I thought it was going to be, like, bowling ball weight, but it’s only about 6 pounds all told. Because I’ve been training with my knee, it was relatively easy to stand and walk, at least with the parallel bars. I don’t want to be too immodest.
Yes, I can and will be decorating it. Purple. You’ll see as soon as it’s done.
It’s very sweaty. It doesn’t feel warm, but you’re wearing three different layers in there. A gel covering, a sock, and a sleeve that goes up my thigh. Not to be gross, but sweat poured out when I took it off.
It’s super easy to put on and take off. Really just slips on, and then VOOP! suction when you stand up.
It doesn’t hurt, but there is a little pressure. That’s weird. And some of my muscles are sore.
I never had a butt anyway.
I go back next week for another fitting, and then they give me my purple weapon. I am so excited to be able to get up and around, and I thank Amanda, my prosthetist, for being slow and careful, and explaining to me all of the things I wanted to know about, including how I will ever be able to put on pants.
You can fully expect a tutorial.

As always, if you have it in you, please give a thought to donating time or money to Hospice Austin. They do amazing work for people who are going through the hardest thing a person can face.
