Therapy.

I’m an anxious person.

If you’ve known me for any period of time, you know that about me.

I’m also a bit of a catastrophist, which means I’m always predicting the worst-case scenario when it comes to…anything.

So, there’s a lot in my life right now that is causing me anxiety, and I’m starting to have anxiety dreams and lots of trepidation about what’s coming down the road for me.

As a result, I have restarted going to therapy.

Just today, I met my new therapist, which is something that’s covered by my work insurance. The last time I went to therapy, in 2017, I had to pay out of pocket. In Los Angeles.

It was pricey.

So, I understand that not everyone can afford it, or has the sort of insurance that covers it. It took me until this week to understand that MY insurance covers it, so I get it.

We didn’t do anything but intake, but I immediately felt better.

I think it’s because I’m committing to get better, inside and out. I’ve not been very kind to myself, mentally, over the years. I’d like to figure out why, and how to change that.

As always, full credit goes to my wife (can you spot the recurring theme?) who encouraged it, not from a “you need help” perspective, but a “talking to someone may help you work some things out” perspective, which is the one I needed.

I know there might be some difficult times to follow, but I feel really ready to get better. And sad that it took me so long and a really terrible catastrophe for it to happen.

But I’m proud of myself, and I’m happy, and I’m really looking forward to straightning the tangle of thoughts in my head and looking at them, to see why I’m always anxious and afraid.

I don’t want to be that anymore. Not in my bonus life.

As always, if you have it in you, please give a thought to donating time or money to Hospice Austin. They do amazing work for people who are going through the hardest thing a person can face.
