Slow and Steady, Apparently.
You all know it’s been a while that I’ve been waiting for my wounds to heal so that I can finally get into my prosthetic, and you also know that the prosthetic is on the way, which is super exciting.
And super exciting comes with a bunch of pent-up time waiting to just get up and go.
However, I’m being told that the way to proceed is not to just strap on the foot and start going full tilt.
Who would have guessed?
There’s going to be a slow integration process when it comes to walking, which is frustrating, but also predictable. There’s no part of this process that hasn’t gone slowly, so why should the next part be any different?
Still, when everyone tells you that you’re going to be able to do ‘90% of the things you used to do,’ you want to start doing those things as quickly as possible.
It’s just…slow.
But, I do know when I think of it rationally, that I would rather be slow and steady and minimize the risk of injury or setback than to just go and go and put it in the hands of fate.
I don’t want to do that.
And, also, I want to keep moving positively through this process, and it’s so hard when your body won’t cooperate. We were supposed to be at this place in May, but I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting for this hole in my leg to be healed, which, I’m now told, is 95% done.
I know that it’s obvious, but I just want to be walking as soon as possible.

As always, if you have it in you, please give a thought to donating time or money to Hospice Austin. They do amazing work for people who are going through the hardest thing a person can face.
